This is the site of Mesjid Baharu. Today it is home to Masjid Jamek Sungai Pinang, a newly constructed mosque along Jelutong Road in 2008. The new Masjid Jamek Sungai Pinang replaces the old Masjid Bahru Sungai Pinang.
The congregation belonging to Mesjid Tuan Guru (Mesjid Lama Sungai Pinang, also known today as Masjid Maqbul) was split after the Penang riots of 1867. A section went off to found the adjacent Mesjid Bahru (Masjid Jamek Sungai Pinang today).
